Technical Questions

RiskMetrics is the service owned my MSCI, which gives access to market information and allows making high-performance simulations.
PrevioRisk is hosted on Microsoft IIS 7 or higher. The application can be hosted on a Windows Web Server Farm and Network Load Balanced for high scalability. The logical limit on the number of users is therefore unlimited. The database can be hosted on a separate server that can be clustered for high availability. Multiple Application servers can connect to this database server for scalable performance.
PrevioRisk uses Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
For a very small setup that does not require redundancy or high availability, SQL Server Workgroup edition can be used. This reduces the overall investment cost.
In cases where you require a large database with thousands of transactions, SQL Server Enterprise or Datacenter edition can be used.
PrevioRisk can be hosted on the Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) in a pay-as-you-go model. This would act like an extension of the organisation’s existing datacenter. A VPN can be created between the datacenter and the Amazon VPC. Since the communication between the two would be encrypted (SSL), and the Amazon server is accessible only from the organisation’s existing network, your data would never be exposed to the Internet. For an in-house hosting, if the number of transactions is less than 1000 per day, a medium-sized application server and database server can be used to host the application.
PrevioRisk supports Windows Domain Integrated authentication or any Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). It would seamlessly integrate into any existing authentication setup of the bank on Microsoft Windows / Linux / Unix. If none of the aforementioned protocols are available, PrevioRisk can be configured to use inbuilt authentication system, and users can be maintained within PrevioRisk
Access levels on PrevioRisk are role-based. Roles have access levels, and users are assigned to roles. Moving a user from one role to another is as easy as moving a file from one folder to another. When a user resigns, he can either be deactivated or removed from the system.
No. All audit trails contain the user information. Upon removal of a user, no prerecorded information is lost.
PrevioRisk requires a simple Internet connection (2 mbps +) with a static IP to communicate with RiskMetrics. The connectivity is over https, ensuring that all communication is encrypted and secure. The static IP needs to be communicated to RiskMetrics to ensure that the access is made available in their firewall. Depending upon the number of open positions that are submitted to RiskMetrics, the capacity of the Internet connection may require a change.
The client application runs in a browser that supports Silverlight 5. Any browser like IE, Firefox, Safari or Chrome can be used as long as the Silverlight 5 framework is installed locally.
Silverlight 5 is a free framework that is developed and distributed by Microsoft. It is freely downloadable and installable from the Microsoft site.
PrevioRisk client uses Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) to communicate with the server. All data transfer between the client and server is compressed and encrypted for faster and safer communication.
PrevioRisk is an extremely modular application. This makes it highly flexible and upgradable. Any new modules released can be easily plugged into the entire system. Upgrades for a module can be seamlessly integrated without the need to upgrade the entire system.
